Shell and Argentium bracelet

These rectangular shell beads need low light to view their colours. In bright light they shine pure white or flash like polished silver, as you change their angle they can become midnight black, in low light you start to see sunset colours appear. Joined together with non-tarnishing Argentium silver wire and a Sterling clasp.

Iolite earrings wrapped in Argentium

Faceted Iolite gemstones (5-7mm) wrapped in Argentium.
I love Iolite...I have a small quantity of these lovely gems and I will make something else with them soon! They are also called water saphires, and they look like violet coloured drops of water. Iolite apparently gets its name from the Greek word for violet. Iolite is also called Viking's Compass because the gemstone was used to determine where the sun was on cloudy days. A good stone for this dark time of year, I hope it brings you a little cheer as well!

Argentium Sterling

The new wire has arrived so I can get busy again!
I decided to start using Argentium Sterling Silver wire, it is a little more expensive than regular Sterling but the benefits sound worth it:
1. Less tarnish
2. Brighter and whiter than Platinum, White Gold or regular Sterling
2. More pure than regular Sterling (it may be preferable for people with sensitivities)
3.Environmentally friendly

Worry Rings

Penny for your thoughts? These adjustable rings are fun to play with, take them off and slide the the wrapped loops around to make them smaller or larger, work out your worries as you re-adjust the loops. I can make them in Sterling Silver or Copper wire. Buy several and stack them, great for keeping your hands busy while your thoughts drift.

Boulder Opal and Emeralds

Sold

One of my favourites sold today, a small boulder opal with streaks and a pool of colour. The tiny faceted emeralds pull out the greens in the opal but in bright light  more colour and sparkle appears as well. I got into jewellery making because of my love of opals, particularly boulder opals with their infinite patterns and unique nature. It is rare to find affordable boulder opals with colour so I don't often have them for sale, but when  I do I especially enjoy it when I can make a totally unique peice I love, and share that with others. Initially I had placed this stone on a cord, but the stone seemed delicate with the emeralds, and it looked wrong, as soon as I made a gold filled chain and clasp it all pulled together and hung correctly. I hope it brings its new owner much enjoyment.

All this and Peridot too!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! (and Happy Birthday to my dear father in Budapest!) It is a beautiful warm Autumn day today, perfect in every respect. There is the traditional turkey dinner to look forward to later on, after a walk in the woods with my children and dogs...how much better can life be? Time spent on doing things one cares about brings a profound sense of peace.

I was out in the garden trying to find a way to photograph these delicate faceted Peridot earrings that I had made recently. I was enjoying the dying details of the garden, the last of summer's warmth. There are a few remaining flowers that have braved the frost, the warm earth still teeming with life, reddening leaves and ..some old seashells I had discarded near the pond! Seashells from a long ago trip to the ocean...memories of a carefree summer from years ago. The seashells are now aged and brittle, the patina of weather and time has added to their character. Why had I not noticed them before? There was a feeling of synergy when I placed the earrings I had made, with something special from nature that I had found long ago and forgotten. I connected with why I make what I do.

A day for thanks-giving.
